The Long Lost Engagment

On December 28th 2011 I got engaged to Mark Manning. You might be asking yourself that was a couple weeks ago why is she just blogging about it now? Well. . . that is a very good question! Lets sum it up to me finding the task daunting(I want to express everything just right!), and like all good procrastinators I'm putting it off till an almost unacceptable time. So lets just pat my back for putting this up and forget its a tad bit on the late side.
Lucky readers you get the long version of the engagement story. Context: Mark had asked me if we could save a day to go to Seattle, preferably Dec 28th because it is our anniversary. I was like of course! a day in Seattle with the man of my dreams, ya i think i could swing it. Fast forward a couple days and we picked up jenny(my lovely sister) from the airport and she mentions that she had been talking to mark and thought we could all go to Seattle together. Light bulb! Mark is going to propose in Seattle with the whole family there. I figured it out. To say I was proud of myself is an understatement. Alright press that fast forward button again and Mark is in town (Gig Harbor, WA) and he is saying he wants to go to the aquarium in Seattle. Jenny agrees. Second Light Bulb! he is going to propose in the aquarium. I KNEW IT. We had almost never talked about going to the aquarium and now all of a sudden that is all we talk about! I'm a smarty I know whats up.
So I told everyone and their mom that I was going to be proposed to on Dec 28th in Seattle at the aquarium. I'll give you a a spoiler alert. It didn't happen quite as I thought. I know surprise, surprise. We did go to Seattle on the 28th. We took the ferry over with my family and played some games and took some pictures to pass the time (see pictures above). And then we go to the aquarium. Mark forbid me from touching his pockets and kept on going over to my sister and whispering to her. I was more than a little anxious. Around every corner I imagined Mark popping down on one knee.
(that's the giant octopus)
Other than seeing the most adorable river otters (future pet) my life didn't change dramatically. I was a little bummed because my plans were smashed to smithereens. We meandered on over to Pikes Place to get some good eats. It was pouring! my favorite kind of weather.

Nice little picture of a horse cop. We unanimously decided that horse cops must be what all cops strive for. poor walking cops and bike cops.

The Seattle Space Needle was were Mark and I split form the fam. They caught the ferry home and we went hunting for a restaurant we had eaten at right after I came back from Jerusalem. I asked mark if he knew where it was and if it was part of the engagement plan. He gave the oh so descriptive answer of "I don't know, is it?". Then he would look at me with his baby blues and give me that "I know I am driving you crazy" smile. but we found it (fun fact: he had no idea where he was going).
There was a little incident where Mark leaned over during dinner (more of a swoop down and back up) I might have thought he was kneeling and proposing. I got all sorts of butterflies. But alas it was just a kiss across the table and nothing more.

At the end of the night we strolled back to the docks to catch a ferry home. I was resigned to the fact that no engagement would come and i was pepping myself up on the inside. The ride was filled with walking around the deck and nearly getting blown off, cuddling up and looking out into the distance, planning our future and talking about everything under the sun.

When we got home the lights in the house were off and our cars were parked outside the garage so we had to go through the front door. And when I walked inside this is what I found.

The lights were off and tea candles and rose petals were strewn on the ground. Cue tears. Mark lead me into the living room and let me soak it in for a minute or so. I could feel his heart beating so fast which made me a little nervous and it hit me that I was actually getting engaged. And then he proposed. It was beautiful and sounded like he had practiced it but when you speak from the heart it always sounds perfect. I love Mark Manning and I had many thoughts rushing through my head at that moment (to say I remember everything he said is a lie, I got a little distracted when he got down on one knee and pulled the ring out).  It was perfect though. Simple and personal and the best part was that my family got to be involved (they set it up when we were still in Seattle).

So I said yes. After almost two years of dating behind us and a lifetime ahead of us accepted Mark's question to become the future Mrs. Manning. After I stuttered out my answer my family came down and we all soaked in the moment with some sparkling cider.

It is white gold, with black diamonds and white diamonds surrounding them.
So here's to you Mark Manning. To a lifetime of keeping me on my toes.

Date Night

Tonight I have a date with mark. I know, I know shocker! You would think after almost two years of dating that i would stop getting nervous butterflies every time I we go on a formal date but no. . . they are still there. In fact I don't think we every quite got out of the honeymoon stage. He still treats me like I am the best thing since Sunday naps (lets face it I am . . . joke, joke!) and I still look over at him when we are sitting on the couch and think "how did I get so lucky".  AND I'm hoping that this feeling never goes away.
Anywho I love you Mark Manning! you zany kook you
(At the Oregon coast this summer)
Not the point of the post though. Tonight I have been asked on a date to go to a very fancy restaurant in downtown Salt Lake. After that we are going to walk around Temple square to see the lights.
I think it will be a truly magical night.

rain/vampires/roommate lovin

So I'm going to try and fit a smorgasbord of information into this little post. First off thanksgiving. One word to describe it. . .RAIN. My family always goes to Seaside, OR for thanksgiving. We have been doing this since before i can remember. We never lived near family and decided to do our own thing for Thanksgiving. It is one of my most favorite holidays and this year I got to bring Mark! boy was he in for a treat. So i blame the RAIN this year on Mark. to explain i must back track a little. Mark has accompanied me on a couple north west excursions. Mostly back home to Gig Harbor and twice to my families beach house in Oregon. Every SINGLE time he has come the weather has been just peachy. And he ALWAYS says the legendary NW rainy weather must be a myth.
Enter Thanksgiving. TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR! so my conclusion is that the Northwest was listening to mark the whole time and decided to save it's rain and get back at him over thanksgiving break. But besides the rain (which i didn't really mind that much. . . ok i loved it) break was nice and cozy. The WHOLE family got to be there especially my estranged sister who lives in DC (Joking! she is not actually estranged i just say that because i never get to see her). As well as Omi (my dad's mom) she is a saint.

Hear is a little snapshot of the break
treats and snoozin (off Jen's iphone)

The rain stopped long enough for me to snap this pic
Two pictures above are payback because neither of my lovely siblings gave me any picture to work with! (translation: jen get me your pictures! you have been warned )

Misty clouds and the Boardwalk

Next on the list is vampires. I know all my faithful followers are wondering what ever happened to those twilight premier tickets I thought were too good to be true. Well it was all true! And i am sure all you twilight haters will be rolling your eye balls at me when I tell you I loved every single second of that movie. I admit not the best movie ever. (KT i know you are disagreeing but remember Giant shark vs. mega octopus. . .ya or Fast and Furious) Side note: i learned the hard way that Fast and Furious and THE Fast and the Furious are two very different movies.
SO ya i saw the movie during the day while all the other fools had to wait till midnight. Suckers! Although i thoroughly enjoyed my sister's story of the men in the back of her theater yelling "Do Work" during the honeymoon scene. We didn't have anyone like that in our theater. In fact mark was very much in the minority. What a trooper for planning this evening. Which also included free chipotle and my first trip to IKEA.

Reaction to the movie. Mocking? possibly

Lastly i wanted to get some awesome pictures of my roommates before Jessi goes off to Spain for the winter semester. Love my roomies

What a wonderful life: The Pie, Breaking Dawn and HP

I have a very dear friend that got back from his mission when i was in Jerusalem this summer. His sister (Blair) goes to school with me. So when mark was out of town for a weekend i had a little extra time and made the trek up to Salt Lake with Blair to visit Ian. Gee dang it has been forever. We were able to go get some pizza at the Pie (SO GOOD) before the blizzard set in. It was my first time and i will definitely be begging mark to go back with me sometime.
At the Pie with Ian
Blair and I
Our wonderful Pie. It was Buffalo chicken Pizza. A little on the greasy side but the flavor was out of this world!

Next Item of business. Breaking Dawn. I posted how my wonderful boyfriend got me premier tickets AND agreed to go with me. Well it was all true! We went to the Gateway on a truly blustery Thursday. At at 4:30 sharp I saw Breaking dawn. Other than one moment where mark laughed and no one else did he was a perfect twilight fan. I was beyond proud of my man for doing this. I love him more and more each day! After the move we went to Chipotle. We got free meals with our premier ticket! and here is the most exciting part we finished off the night with Ikea! You are looking at a first timer. It was incredible. I loved getting lost in the rooms with mark by my side. I could not help but think about the future. Not gonna lie I like where it's going.
Standing in front of the giant poster
Mocking? no he is just that excited

Waiting to go in
after the movie. I was just so happy I saw it and was getting out of the theater at 6:30pm instead of the fools (just kidding roommates) that got out at 2 am
Chipotle: devoured in 5 min.

Best part about the premier is that it showed the preview for Hunger Games. Slightly obsessed I think they could be really great.

Shout out to Harry Potter! While mark was out of town earlier this month I took Blair to fye (girls night). she had never been and you can never go to fye too many times so i volunteered a trip. It is then that i was informed that Harry Potter is going into the vault! WhAAAAAt??? ya mild panic attack i only have the fourth one.So i called up mark asking him if I should get the seventh movies because they were on an incredible sale. we agreed that it was an investment in our future. How i love our shared joy in movie watching and buying!  SO like any rational person I got both HP7P1 and HP7P2 for those of you who don't speak abbreviation that is harry potter seven part one and two.

Fast forward two weeks and Mark and I end up at fye. and well. . .
Our Harry Potter collection is complete! (Katie, Mela, Mark) HP1-7

Happy Days! life is good and thanksgiving is right around the corner
